Sr. Papá Chango paints the world to help people regain their imagination.
Sr. Papá Chango is a Mexican Artist based in Berlin. Over the last half decade or so he has exhibited his work around the world, from Australia to Berlin. Participating in various urban cultures and the street-level discourses around them allows Chango the chance to connect with the communities and people he works with.
His experiences give birth to the fantastic characters found in his lively paintings, street art and illustrative work. Chango’s worlds are full of rich color and emotion, often using groups of large anthropomorphic, animal-like or monster-like characters to filter his experiences with local communities. Often portrayed in sympathetic poses and painted in bright primary or pastel shades, these figures seem to float in spaces between fantasy and everyday life, creating a fairytale narrative and encouraging an emotional response in the viewer. Chago's open-hearted work looks to inform clearly and simply, with the intention to touch the heart and mind of audiences.
A brilliantly persuasive mural, replete with Papá Chango’s trademark colourful animals and monsters. The work was created in Revier Südost, a new cultural space in Berlin. This wall painting represents the current concern for the care of the environment. In the absence of meaningful human action, animals and monsters will unite to fight together to save the planet. The mural was painted in Revier Südost, a new cultural area in Berlin. It was also chosen as a projection piece for Berlin Festival of Light, 2021.
